As a show of his commitment to excellence, John L. Wilson has committed to a $5,000 scholarship for Fairmont State University junior-status students who show great promise in the field of accounting. The Gary K. Bennett Accounting Excellence Scholarship will award $1,000 annually. Mr. Wilson, a 1988 accounting graduate from Fairmont State has chosen to honor his time at the school with a scholarship gift to his alma mater.
Enthusiastic to re-enter the workforce, Mr. Wilson expedited his college education at Fairmont State, taking on a hearty course schedule and graduating early. John gives credit to Gary K. Bennett and Glenn Harman for their support and ability to allow him to move through the program at an advanced pace. “These professors fostered my professional growth. I have been able to accomplish much in the field of accounting and entrepreneurship through my small business, which has 24 employees in the state of West Virginia.” Through this gift, he hopes to financially empower students who have the same drive to succeed.
Wilson now owns his own private CPA firm in Pennsylvania and operates an oil and gas company in West Virginia. He resides in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania but spends several days each month in West Virginia. His gift signifies his pride in Fairmont State University faculty, and their ability to prepare accounting students for successful careers in this challenging and rewarding field.
