​Assistant Director of Development

Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and strategic Assistant Director of Development to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead efforts to cultivate meaningful relationships and drive innovative fundraising initiatives with major gift level donors. The successful candidate will be instrumental in expanding our donor base, securing vital funding, and ensuring the sustainability of our mission-driven programs. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional passionate about making a lasting impact through strategic development and relationship management.

Duties
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with donors, prospects, corporate partners, and community stakeholders through effective relationship management techniques and personalized communication.
  • Manages a personal portfolio of donors and prospects for gifts in the $25,000 - $500,000 range while focusing on aligning the needs at Fairmont State with the interests and motivations of current and prospective donors.
  • Undertakes an aggressive plan to qualify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the University, including its mission, history and current and future priorities, representing all aspects of the university and its opportunities and needs for private support.
  • Collaborate with University deans and administrators on gift proposals for major gift prospects and to plan campus visits for alumni and other FSU constituencies.
  • Identifies engagement opportunities for donors by working with Foundation staff, university, and alumni organizations to plan, execute and /or staff prospect cultivation, hospitality, donor stewardship, recognition programs, board meetings, academies, and other special events.
  • Works with the Foundation President to develop and implement an annual work plan to fulfill all quantifiable personal work performance goals for contacts, major gift solicitations, closed major gifts, new major gift prospects identified, and revenue goals as set forth by the Foundation.
  • Drafts and executes gift agreements, gift acceptance letters, solicitation proposals, and other presentations associated with development work.
  • Performs related administration duties by recording all contact with donors and prospects into the Foundation’s constituent management system (Raiser's Edge).
  • Plans, schedules and completes frequent in and out of state travel, often overnight for multiple nights, to contact donors and prospects.
  • In collaboration with the Foundation President, serves as the liaison to university and community groups to share information about the University and engage in on-and off-campus activities where prospects and donors may attend.
  • Stay informed on legal aspects related to estate planning, wills, trusts & estate law to assist donors with legacy giving options.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in nonprofit development or fundraising roles with a strong background relationship management.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with all constituencies, including but not limited to, speaking, writing, editing and proofreading.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills required to coordinate and manage competing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to travel extensively by car/air, attend evening/weekend events, comply with travel policy/timelines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows, constituent management databases and professional use of social media.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Entrepreneurial in spirit, while operating in an environment of collaboration.
  • Flexibility and creativity to manage and rapidly changing and evolving circumstances.
